Bubbles? Fish can blow bubbles? I came downstairs this morning and saw that Buddy's tank had a whole plop of bubbles at the top of his tank! I was wondering how they got they and if her blew them himself. So I looked online and I learned that betta fish blow bubbles for bubble nests!
When a betta fish is ready to take on spawn they create a bubble nest and when the female is ready to release the small fry of fish, she will take them and put them into the small bubbles so they have a source of oxygen! I thought this was pretty neat! They also blow bubble nests when they are happy and content so i guess I'm doing a good job!
The bubbles are formed by the betta gasping for a breath of air at the surface and then coating it with a mucus that will keep the bubble from popping and they release it up into the top of the water level and they just keep doing this until a bunch of bubbles have clumped together.
