Masterpiece/Disasterpiece
Before starting this story we looked at excerpts from books and student examples. Then we looked into how the authors would narrate a personal experience and zoomed in and out at certain points to highlight their story. Then after looking at them, we choose an experience and wrote our own.

Excerpt from A Kid Called Kyle:His second semester has started and his first day was okay. After 20 minutes of class went by Rachel and Maria walked in. They switched to his class so he had two more people to talk with, judge, with, and be weird with. Those two were the best of friends, no matter what happened they had each other. Same with Dakota and Jared. Best friends, a pairing that were inseparable. After three and a half years of high school, Kyle started to look back at his previous years. Trying to pinpoint why he disliked people so much. Why he was always alone most of his free time. Why he never really had a solid set of friends. Why he would always float around with different groups of people. After three and a half years he realized he never really had someone to call his best friend. He had close friends, but never a long term friend that he knew he could talk to in 20 years and things wouldn’t have changed. He never really liked that label anyways, but maybe he just kept telling himself that because he knew he wouldn't find one for himself. Just someone that'll listen to whatever. Someone who he could just show up at their doorstep and it wouldn’t be awkward. Someone who he could do anything with, share anything with, just someone. All he probably needed was someone. After three and a half years the only reason he never liked anyone was because he wouldn’t let himself.
