The Realm of Possibility Project
For this project, we took a look at the book The Realm of Possibility by David Leviathan. He create a book that was structured in a way where each chapter was a different character and the whole book was told through different individual perspectives. We took a similar approach, but tried to get our characters to intertwine with each other more throughout the book. Grim's Tale written by The Class of 2014 is a story of Xavier Grimshaw who has disappeared and the book focuses on how he is effecting the students of the school.
Below is my chapter A New Start. It is written from the perspective of Landon, a new student that wishes to make some friends since he has just transferred over. There is an excerpt below and also the link to read the full chapter.
—While thinking of what to write for the chapter of our class novel, I was thinking about what I would be interested in reading about in a character. I started to kind of piece together this character from my mind, then it slowly evolved into him being a part of me and some other people I was close with.
—Something I learned about writing fiction is that it's kind of hard. Some might think its easy because what you're writing isn't real, but in reality, it's harder to think of something good and make it sound presentable. I found it is even harder to write with other people. Making sure the continuity was present in all of our chapters was challenging. One thing could've thrown off our whole section, so we constantly had to be talking with each other ensuring that we all had the right context in each of our chapters that would keep the flow of the story.
—Like I mentioned earlier once of the challenging factors was writing with multiple people, but it was something that was new and unique so I think that I enjoyed it more rather than taking it as a struggle. The most rewarding thing I thought for me was finishing the overall book with the class and seeing how it came together. I think that this was a great writing project and that together, everyone collectively came together and showcased our each individual voice in one book.
—I think this piece is completed in my opinion. There might be a few things that I may want to change, but they're small things that wouldn't effect the story at all. Overall, I like how I chose to write this piece and the end product.
